The unification between modern Hard Rock and Heavy Metal has turned out to be something quite common in the past decade and even before. While Hard Rock incorporated several of elements, besides the new modern sound, that let them have a grip on the new century, its mixing with somewhat 80s oriented Heavy Metal gave way to a musical direction that can be rather soothing and original in a way. Right before the moment I listened to their second album, "MCll", I haven't really known the Swedish HUMAN COMETH. However, as their tracklist started hitting my machine, I knew that I was facing something fairly innovative.
"Along In The Dark", "Fight Of The Skyscrapers" and "Love Games" were amazing efforts and wonderful showcases of how HUMAN COMETH upgraded their Heavy Metal style in various of paths like the involved darkness, mystery along with a burning fire. Although the musical vibe wasn't fully towards the 80s style, especially if judging by the great production that was modernized, it didn't interfere HUMAN COMETH to be equally catchy with great choruses that really touched something and a full scale attack of outstanding solos played by their lead guitarist / composer, Morgan Pettersson. Those virtuoso, powerful shredding solo moments along with touchy licks elevated the material.
Even without those three mentioned tracks, it seemed that HUMAN COMETH were experimenting in order to cross over boarders while not being too constant. As I saw it, it went both ways for them as it was a gamble and I might add even a risk. Tracks as "Smash Crash" and "Hyperspace" were good examples of how HUMAN COMETH tried to lift themselves out of their normal catchy material and into something different.
However, those two tracks weren't really close to the others, especially the greatest hits of this release. The former, "Smash Crash", was slightly experimental as it seemed that it involved a bit of a weird Pop direction. In overall, that is pretty neat to do that but the song itself didn't cause much of an interest, needless to say enjoyable. On the other hand, "Hyperspace", although not a mind blower, absorbed elements of Extreme Metal and blended quite nicely with Hard Rock.
So as you would be able to see, HUMAN COMETH exercised both traditional playing along with several of innovations in order to show that were willing to go farther. "MCll" is a great album that should be recognized as a respected attempt to go beyond the normal formulas of composing Hard Rock / Heavy Metal tracks. Therefore, I really do think that labels should take a closer look on what those Swedes have been showing off for more than two years.

Human Cometh was consisted of veteran prominent musicians that mostly have around 30 years of experiences under their belt, all of them have wide area of influences, from the virtuosity of Van Halen, the psychedelic embrace of Porcupine Tree, to the heavy hitters of Iron Maiden, and the result that was shown in 'Evolution' is very original and perhaps could be one of the most unique sounding material you ever encountered.
"Aiming High" and "Himalaya" have that downtuned rhythm feel as if they're coming straight from the grungy era of 1993 but still rolling on the traditional hard rock platform and Morgan Pettersson's killer solos are like fireball shot fiercely from his axe. "Jaded" has that heavier groove while "White Sky" tends to slow down a bit, but honestly the first four tracks are simply average hard rock done well.
"Stalker In The Night" started to get better. The swaggering uptempo sweep of keyboards and stampeding riffs are stunning. This might be the most progressive side of Human Cometh and Pettersson steals the show again with his brilliant solo. "No Fear" puts big amount of melodies to the arrangement and turns out to be a great hard rock tune. "Cross The River Styx" is an astonishing piece of superior instrumental twist. Unfortunately, "Morning Star" and "Irukandji" can't keep up the momentum and they're going back to that decency again.
Talking about their originality, What seems to be winning key can lead to another confusion, imagine your standard hard rock style was swirled with grungy and doomy tuning and progressive tempo, I bet it's not for everyone. Singer Kaj Roth performed an impeccable singing but the real show belongs to Pettersson's magnificent delivery. 3-4 great tracks and the rest suffers with no real strong hooks and memorable sing-along lines. Acceptable start, only needs to be improved with much bigger songwriting to prevail in the future.

Human Cometh is a band with no real home other than cyberspace. They are part of something that is becoming very frequent in the world of music: online collaboration.
For quite some time now record companies have been reuniting bands and recording new music without the band members even shaking hands. Someone writes some music, sends it to the members; they record their individual pieces and send it back to be mixed. From my limited knowledge of recording procedure this sort of thing has gone on for quite some time.
Now that procedure has been taken to a whole new level with online collaboration websites that allow musicians to meet, socialize, and ultimately record music as a “band.” I’m not entirely sure about Human Cometh, but a lot of these bands have never met face to face. Does this seem wrong to anyone else? Seriously, I’m asking!
I have done interviews myself with bands in the past that told me they had no tours booked because they have never really met and since they live all over the world it would be a nightmare to organize.
What happened to friends getting together in their garage for the common cause of music? What happened to going into the studio and jamming it out until it sounds right? I can’t imagine collaborating with my Facebook friends. I don’t even know half of their real names. Does the music recorded in this method still have soul? How do you decide the masters? Via, Skype or email? I’m old!
Kaj Roth (vocals and coincidentally a writer for melodic.net), Morgan Pettersson (guitar), Bjor Pherson (bass), Jon Robbins (drums), and Jay Shankuon (keyboards) formed Human Cometh and have recorded the 2010 Evolution and the current HCII.
HCII is a great album and falls more to the melodic side than the progressive the band talks about. You can find details at www.humancometh.com. Tracks like “Alone in the Dark,” “Red Balloon,” and my personal favorite “Smash Crash” are good hard rockin’ tracks, but I always found myself looking to trip up the production values because of the recording format. I certainly didn’t find much. The album is seamless and the mix is fabulous. You would swear the guys were jamming in the same room with that feeling of aggressiveness and being a unit that comes with good musicians and good material. So, if I couldn’t pick it out, why does it bother me so much? I have bitched about over production in the past, so does taking bass lines, drums, guitars, and vocals that are thousands of miles apart and mixing them to a solid piece of work make it over production?
Although musicians do record and mix separately I had a hard time embracing it because it was done over so many miles and so many electronics. Shit, I am old!
I kept coming back to the question: even if it’s good, is the soul still there?
For me, I can’t get past the internet scope on recording and the social media aspect of it, but if you accept change better than my dinosaur self than check out Human Cometh. You’ll be happy you did.
I obviously have more questions than answers so go download Human Cometh and let me die with my analogue technology.
Show me your horns,
Martell

Human Cometh strikes back with their second album after their debut album Evolution that was released last year so these guys are really creative. Behind the vocals is non other than Kaj Roth that also writes reviews for Melodic.net. The debut was a solid hardrock/metal album, but lacked little in the songs in my opinion, but for HC II they have really moved up a couple of steps on the ladder with a better variation. For this new album I think everything has changed to the better than on the debut. First, of all the production is damn tight and the songs are very guitar oriented with lots of heavy melodic riffs. The songs are a lot more interesting this time and even if some of the songs are quite heavy the choruses are very melodic with nice hooks.
On the down side, I think they lose their sense of bringing melodic songs when they get too modern. Like on the song Hyperspace where they have growl vocals and it don’t work for me, just plain and boring. But on the better side check out Alone In The Dark with a strong chorus and the great Love Games that’s one the best songs they have come up with. Challenger Deep is another strong song where Kaj sings a duet with a female vocalist. She has a clean and lovely voice that is a great mixture to Kaj´s more rougher voice. Fight Of The Skyscrapers is a huge ballad with strong melodies and the guitar solo is fantastic. The second chapter of Human Cometh is a really good album and sound wise they have not changed it’s just a lot better than the debut and it’s a nice mixture of Kiss, Kings X, Winger and hints of Europe.

HUMAN COMETH: "HCII"
Rating: 5/10
Human Cometh 2011
Review by Kimmo Toivonen
As anyone would have probably guessed, "HCII" is Human Cometh's second album. I haven't heard the first one, and all I know about the band is that Kaj Roth of Melodic.Net is the band's lead vocalist. He does a good job behind the microphone as do the rest of the band members, but I'm just a little bit unimpressed by the song material.
The album does get a good start with "Alone In The Dark", which reminds me of Tony Martin-era Black Sabbath with AOR overtones. Heavy, but melodic. Unfortunately, a certain dullness becomes the norm for the album, with most of the other tracks plodding along at a steady pace. Guitarist Morgan Pettersson throws in some excellent axework to spice things up a little, and there's even a Cookie Monster guesting on the track "Hyperspace", but the hooks just aren't sharp enough for me. "Challenger Deep" and "Love Games" are probably the tracks I like the most out of the remaining ones, while the likes of "Supervulcano" and "Ambassadeur Of Rock" are merely competently played, yet forgettable. Okay, the "slightly" repetitive "Supervulcano" is memorable, but for all the wrong reasons - I can't help but think of Spinal Tap when listening to it...
The band offer their first album as a free download on their website, and you can listen to some of this album's songs there too. Go visit and check them out, because even though I didn't warm up to their brand of hard rock, you could very well like them.

One of these hit and run moments per say as I like to call them, it seemed like a flash of memory when in 2009 the collaboration between the Swedish Hard Rock band mixed with American musicians Human Cometh released their debut record “Evolution”. Although the album didn’t receive widespread press I liked what I heard from the out fit and saw some promise in their sound. They mixed an interesting amount of dark melodies crossing the line between Hard Rock and Metal. Two years go by and they return with their sophomore release “HC II” titled appropriately together with lead guitar man Morgan Pettersson and lead singer Kaj Roth, the group got Dan Swanö to mixed the album as well.
Interestingly enough the band’s singer Roth actually used to be a reviewer for another online publication, that is until he joined Human Cometh. What are the chances? He actually has a pretty solid voice that fits the mold of what the band’s style does pretty well. I enjoyed the dark atmosphere in the first record and the album opens up with something similar in the song “Alone In The Dark’, has a creepy vibe to it that works somehow. The more up tempo menacing punch of “Hyperspace” breaks the unique barrier on HC II with a stronger sounding riff and thick bass pounding ala Tool, throw in some death growls for good added evilness. The ethereal vocals of the female duet in “Into The Deep” adds a more catchy and melodic feel to this particular song. Another highlight comes in the power ballad of “Fight Of The Skycrapers” featuring some strong high rising chorus lines with an under layer of soft acoustic passages and a tasty guitar solo.
I didn’t know what to quite make of Human Cometh as they have a unique sound and the songs here on HC II followed a more varied formula. They are a misanthropic mixture of dark, melodic Hard Rock even borrowing some progressive metal elements in spots. I think this will eventually be the hardest thing for a band of this caliber to break through in any particular genre, even fore fans haven’t heard of their sound. While I think they songs probably lack identity, I thought the production was very well executed, the guys are all very skilled musicians and the high quality of each songs versatility while simple, it’s commendable. Check them out and make up your own mind.

Human cometh II
This is the second digital Album from the talented Morgan Petterson titled by thwe same name and is a conjuction project with both Dan Swano who mixed co-produced and mastered this CD.
Another change is in the key's , the synth parts were perfomed by Jay Shankman.
The first review here http://goo.gl/nEueX showcased some very clever guitar and composition skills.
The albums cover art is something of an acquired taste blending sexy chick and vampire with gothic-esq font.
ALONE IN THE DARK
Mid tempo metal track , with vocals mixed grinding guitars and synths . Nice chord progression and very polished track.
Chorus is uplifting and the harmony vocals make it come life. The solo is very nice guitar work indeed great smooth tone to it .
AMBASSADEUR OF ROCK
Great samples and synth breaking in a cool metal rhythm, vocals are filtered to make a megaphoned vibe , wall of guitars gives it some power and
great drums stand out well . There are some great effects and studio tricks done by Morgan and the solo is sweet. Can't beat a good solo.
CHALLENGER DEEP
Chilling out a bit , intro has a real trance vibe to it , and the vocals twinned with a great female voice that adds some great depth and tone , the mini solo fill is really well times in the song
Morgan is obviosly a very talented guitarist as well and great composer and studio engineer, the solo guitar sounds and great sounding wah and lots of smooth legato
FIGHT OF THE SKYSCRAPERS
Intro has a cool old record effect as the intro brings in a movie vibe soundtrack. The classical guitar lines gives this a great dimension.
Again the harmony lines are a great sound and very nice synth string programming , these stand out very well .
Solo has lots of cool shredding sweep picking bluesy lines and huge bending and sustain.
HYPERSPACE
I love this intro with its synth arp and guitar mix , the octaves clean parts and wall of guitar sound are a great build up.
Some great vocal manipulation by the vocalist as the screamo comes in before the real buildup to solo, this is very epic sounding with some growl
best track so far ...
KING OF SPADES
Metal ...nice riffage, I like the stop start vocal lines and cool solo , great wah sound and love those lead lines mixed with synth lead filtering.
LOVE GAMES
Morgan is definitely an intro man , I get the feeling the intro is one of the fun parts , there is a great feel to this track , nice warm guitar and vocal texture
big guitar wall again , great studio work to get that sound . Outstanding solo again ....;)
RED BALLOON
This track starts with very catchy riff , nice synths ....very dark song , good track. solo was a great job , lots of fast stuff
SMASH CRASH
My favorite riff so far , hooks you right into the song ,the lyrics are very sobering and the song serious, dont drink and drive!!
SUPERVOLCANO
Vocoder intro , great synths and the nice vocal effects . Lots of studio magic and a scary subject matter of the many supervolcano's. Great guitar again ;))
Great track
Summary
The whole album is really well produced
there is variety and Morgan has made the best of the tools he has at his command.
I guess its a taste thing but there could have had more real live instrument interaction and this does a sound a little more studio made rather than live recorded.
I was so impressed with Human Cometh 1 and this is why I felt this album lacked some of the magic the first one did but not to say its really that bad, no by no means is it bad at all , its a very well made production.

Human Cometh are Prog Metal and while that sometimes can be a bad thing, such is not the case here. The song for review "Himalaya" kicks ass right from the opening chords. Thick, meaty guitar riffs soon give way to melodic verses which then turn heavy again. Vocalist Kaj Roth has a stellar voice which can clearly reach high heights but thankfully does not overdo it. Guitarist Morgan Pettersson gets to rip off a complex solo as well (countryman Yngwie Malmsteen would be pleased). The project was co-ordinated by Petterson and bizarrely, the sessions for the album Evolution were completed by American musicians digitally in their own studios and the "band" has never even met. Let's hope they do, because this is some seriously great stuff.
HEAVY METAL ADDICTION 2011-01-18
Human Cometh – Evolution (2010): Human Cometh has to be one of the biggest surprises for me this year. I’m not sure how I found out about the band, either I found them through other Metal websites or the band contacted me about their debut album EVOLUTION. It doesn’t matter because I found them and the album is an excellent blend of different styles including Hard Rock, Melodic Rock, Power Metal and Progressive Metal. Every song on EVOLUTION is well written with solid musicianship and it’s hard to believe that this is a new band. One of the things I thought was cool about Human Cometh was that they offered this album as a FREE download to anyone interested and, if they wanted, fans could send a donation to the band via Paypal. It’s all about getting the music out there and Human Cometh have done just that. From what I understand, there is a proper CD pressing available so head over to their website to preview the music and support the band by purchasing a CD.

I want to bring to your attention a high quality masterfully put together ballsy prog rock/metal album with vocals and great riffs searing soloing done to a very pro standard. The songs on this album will have you rocking out with air guitar poses and from the website to the artwork and production of this album high quality and attention to every detail unmissed. I only ususally do instrumental albums, I have a a saying, "vocals are a neccasery evil betweeen the riffs and the solo" but this album proves me wrong . Other bands with vocals that I can compare this album to are like, Dream Theater or Symphony X , good vocals backed up with awesome instrumental expertise. Im very pleased to say this is free to download from their website The album Evolution contains 9 tracks in which one is an instrumental and your listening to a portion of the epic track 9 "Cross the river styx". This album ticks all the epic metal boxes with great drumming , the keyboards adding great textures and the full sounding rhythm is something that really stands out as well as the masterfull guitar virtuosity of Morgan Petterson Thanks to Morgan for giving us the inspiration to review this album and for giving his music to the world free I hope to see Morgan do some lessons for us here at shredknowledge.

Melodic.net
Human Cometh is a new Swedish melodic hardrock/metal band. Behind this is former Melodic.net reviewer Kaj Roth (vocals), guitarist Morgan Pettersson that is Human Cometh together with rhythm section Bjorn Pehrson (bass) and Jon Robbins (drums). Evolution is their debut album and is a solid affair with riff oriented songs and a tight production. What this album lacks of is song variation and I think many of the songs has the same feeling and reminds little of each other. I think Kaj sings very good and to be honest much better than I had expected and his voice suits this kind of hardrock/metal. They deliver 9 tracks on Evolution and it’s a very even album and I miss the real standout track that would lift up the album couple of levels. I think they open up the album is a fine way with Aiming High that has a darker feel over it with good melodies. The melodic Himalaya is nice with strong riffs from Morgan and a nice chorus that reminds of Winger. No Fear is strongly influenced by Thin Lizzy and is the best song of the album with a heavy chorus. The instrumental track Cross The River Styx is very melodic and has a neo-classical influences ala Yngwie Malmsteen. Human Cometh is a band that just have started and their debut album Evolution is a solid album and I’m sure we will hear more from them and that the next album will be even stronger. Couple of nice ones but as I said the songs are to sound alike. If you mixture a spoon of Kiss with Kings X and Winger then you got Evolution

Ove Lundqvist – Guitarist (Crystal Blue), producer, songwriter, listener, old friend and critics.
When I first heard about this collaboration I was so surprised. It was not at all what I would expected since I know both Morgan and Kaj and have knew them for many years (read mid 80´s) They have both during the years been doing their own separate things and have had their own separate bands. So now finally their paths have been crossed and in a short while of time they’ve created the band Human Cometh and produced a CD with stunning high quality music and a lot of surprises, which I I’ll come back to.
The album Evolution contains 9 tracks in which one is an instrumental. The musical journey on this CD kicks off with the song Aiming high and an alluring riff at a low volume which follows of a massive wall of guitars that makes you sit straight and pay attention. It’s a strong song with brilliant lyrics, do not ignore that. Kaj is singing with an attitude, awareness and playfulness that is well suited for this song. The guitar solo on this song is not too pretentious and it fits the song real well. It’s a little laidback but yet it shows what to expect from this axeslinger on the forthcoming songs on this album. He has saved some goodies for us.
Next song Himalaya continues in the same angry riff feel but the song has a much better dynamic arrangement than the previous song. It sure makes you bang your head that’s for sure. Nice vocals and great lyrics again. The guitar solo is for me split in two sections, dislike and like. The first part is a starting off with a nice sweep and some pentatonic stuff - which I like. Then it turns into a dislike which sounding more like an extended legato practice than a musical statement. Then it turns to like again. The drum kicks in for a full beat and the wha wha guitar cries and rage until the end of the solo.
For some reason this song Jaded never fell into my likings. I’ve listened to it a lot, but the arrangement is linear and it starts and ends, that’s it. It’s not a bad song but it never gets to me emotionally and that’s a huge problem for me.
Yey!!! White sky is one of the best songs on the album. It gets to me from the first second. I just love the mood in the song. And Kaj’s theatrical approach to the song is stunning, thumbs up. Morgan shows one of his best sides when it comes to guitar solo. He knows what he’s doing, that’s for sure.
Stalker in the night starts in an interesting and inviting way. But to be honest, the vocals on this one would have served better with some ears from an outside producer. It’s to monotone and repetitive.
Morgan delivers a great and rhythmic guitar solo in a bluesy kind of way that ends with a technical cascade of nice melodic runs. The song as a whole is not one of the strongest on the album, but yet not the weakest.
No fear is more of a pop song in a Heavy Metal manner. The coolest guitar riff I’ve heard in a while. It’s a riff that sticks like glue in your head. Kaj delivers an impressive vocal performance on this one. This must be the best guitar solo on the album, love you Morgan, great feel and joyfulness. You really surprised me on this one. I can almost sing the whole solo. This song is also one of the best ones on the album.
Cross the river styx is a real highlight and also a strong candidate for the best song on the album. It’s a song that could been taken from YJM’s Trilogy era, but with Morgan’s touch. Nice melodic content and technical flare but not to the extent that it’s losing its value as an interesting composition. It’s really an amazing axework on this one. It’s relaxed, matured, advanced and melodic with no needs to impress and prove.
Morning star is more of a straight approach metal song with a lot of varied staccato rhythmic figures. Flawless vocals from Kaj and the guitarwork on this one are really great and tasteful. Even though Morgan is getting away with his legato practice lines that occur in the end of the song, it fits like a glove this time. This is probably a song you love or hate due to the staccato rhythm throughout the song. I like it.
I have to include Irukandji in the list of the best songs of the album. An Impressive vocal performance from Kaj and it really feels like his performing with his heart. The axework is flawless and the guitar solo is one the best on the album, great feel and emotions on this one. Recorded late night alone in the dark perhaps?
Summary:
What a great debut album Human Cometh delivered. Beside some few dislikes and tiresome arrangement it’s an album well worth paying for. I would like to give this album 3,9 out of 5
Morgan (or More Gain as I called him way back) has really grown as a guitarist and composer. And Kaj is about to enter a new way of delivering songs. I do really looking forward to see more of this collaboration in the near future.
Then I would like to end this review with a reminder to all of you – Pay attention to the lyrics.

Metal Come Lately 2010-04-01 (http://cheekyfantail.com/music/)
Human Cometh – an unexpected find (courtesy of Heavy Metal Addiction) and I must say, after a couple of listens, I really like it.
My first exposure to them was Himalaya. The lyrics struck me as somewhere between odd and unusual, just because of the topic, but Kaj Roth’s vocals caught me immediately, which then led to downloading the album, a repeat listen or two, then back to hitting the Donate button (for what I’d pay for any commercially released album).
I’ve adopted a firm policy: don’t rip off bands by nicking their stuff. Apparently this is unusual… although the people who blithely tell me about their pirating activities get a good verbal slap in the head for their effort! Hey, these bands work hard, so do I, so fair’s fair, ’nuff said.
Back to Human Cometh: I like all the tracks, but don’t have a favourite as yet. They’ve achieved a nice mix between hard rock and metal I think. Apart from great vocals, Morgan Pettersson’s guitar work is slick and stylish (loving those riffs!) moving easily between lighter rock and satisfyingly heavy sounds.
Drumwork is just awesome, as is bass, providing a solid anchor to every track, no two of which are alike, keeping everything interesting from beginning to end – not an easy feat! Everything is expertly mixed in production to get a well-balanced sound, overall making this an album well worth listening to.
Great work guys! Looking forward to more. Go have a beer – you earned it
